AUDIENCE QUOTES

'I've been coming to the Edinburgh Fringe since 1983 and have never related to a show so much.'

'Funny and charming'

'All the family and our friends laughed at and enjoyed your show more than any other we saw during our day of comedy in Edinburgh.'

'How scary to stand up and “do” comedy? Very - Maxine Jones at the Other Place in Brighton wasn’t scared at all. At first she faked self-deprecation, we quickly twigged that she is strong and self determined. None of the “I’ll put myself down first” or all men are shits malarkey. Her show The Invisible Woman is witty, warm and polished. A very enjoyable evening.' Simone Grant

Maxine was a journalist in London before moving to Ireland in 1990. She did her first stand-up gig in a Dublin pub in 2011 and was hooked. She has since toured six Edinburgh shows, been a guest on BBC Woman's Hour and performed in the RTE Comedy Showcase and the BBC New Comedy Awards.

Her material is honest and refreshing, on living in Ireand, rearing three Irish sons and on turning 60.

Comedian Maxine Jones is an Edinburgh Fringe regular who has been mining her life experiences as a divorcee and English mother of three Irish sons, for very relatable, humorous shows.

Jones was a latecomer to comedy and in a sea of younger comics treading the same ground about modern life, she brings something fresh to the scene.

In Never Been 61 Before, Maxine Jones considers her life now that the kids have grown up and flown the nest.

Maxine Jones knocks it out of the park with this hilarious and moving stand-up show. Utilising the situational comedy of a demographic not oft considered, Maxine’s humour highlights some of the issues of motherhood, the female identity, and what it’s like to get into fitness at sixty.

Don’t let her deceive you, though, this is no Old Biddy poking fun at herself, Maxine’s humour pushes the audience to the edge of their comfort zone, with some hard-hitting jokes on religion, identity and politics.

Although coming from the UK originally, Maxine has been living in Ireland for many years, and it’s that dual-identity which lets those punches land right on the money.

Sometimes it really does take an Insider’s Outside Perspective to show us what we’re like.
