EMBARRASSING MOTHER
50-minute one-woman show about an English mother
rearing three Irish sons in Dublin
Maxine’s three sons are horrified when she starts stand-up. She is forced to lie. They think she’s in Lidl.
Maxine left London for Dublin in 1990, married an Irishman, became the first divorcee, reared three rowdy sons and discovered how English she was.
Maxine featured on Woman’s Hour and tours the UK and Ireland, ‘staying in cheap hotels and exposing myself to strangers’.
‘Outstandingly funny’, entertainment.ie
‘Her honesty made her comedy work for me.’ Somerset County Gazette
‘Her material raised some of the biggest laughs of the evening.
‘We liked the line from divorced stand-up Maxine Jones, "Quite hard bringing up three boys. Basically, you're rearing three replicas of someone you don't like very much."’ Glasgow Herald
'Amicable onstage presence...Parents will sympathise' Chortle
AUDIENCE QUOTES
'I've been coming to the Edinburgh Fringe since 1983 and have never related to a show so much. Loved it!'
'Charming and funny.'
'That really cheered me up. Not that I need cheering up, but I just went to see a very heavy play before this...'
'Thanks for putting on a great show yesterday. All the family and our
friends laughed at and enjoyed your show more than any other we saw
during our day of comedy in Edinburgh.' Nick Allen
